Abstract

Professor of Physics, University of California at Berkeley, 1934-1973; and staff member of Lawrence Radiation Laboratory (renamed the Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory in 1971), 1934-1971, and its director from 1958-1973. Pioneer in development and application of the cyclotron. Died in 1991.
