Institutional History

Abstract

Originally called the Lawrence Radiation Laboratory, the name was changed in 1971 to Ernest O. Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory. A high-energy physics laboratory, in 1995, the "Ernest O." portion of the name was officially dropped and it was designated a "national" laboratory.
