Anton Peterlin was awarded the Bingham Medal of the Society of Rheology in 1970. He both founded and served as the first chairperson of the physics department at the University of Ljubljana in his home country, Slovenia. Later in his career, he also held positions at the Technical University of Munich, the Research Triangle Institute in North Carolina, and the National Bureau of Science and Technology.
