Professor of Physics, George Washington University, 1935-41; employed on the Manhattan Project, 1942-46; Professor of Physics, University of Chicago, 1946-52; Assistant Director, Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory, 1949-52; Associate Director and Director, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, 1954-1960; Professor of Physics and Emeritus Professor of Physics, University of California, Berkeley, 1953-2003; Professor and Senior Research Fellow, Hoover Institution, Stanford University, 1960-2003. Retired in 1975.
