Sir Peter Mansfield was awarded the 2003 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine alongside Paul Lauterbur "for their discoveries concerning magnetic resonance imaging." The development of the first MRI machine has deeply impacted the fields of science and modern medicine. Sir Mansfield spent his career involved in numerous research teams and has contributed a great deal to what we know today of diagnostic imaging.
