Gravity Bends Light

spacer

Gravity bends light, as Einstein showed. In this Hubble Space Telescope image, a cluster of three massive galaxies 7 billion light-years away (orange) is bending light to create multiple images of a galaxy more than 11 billion light-years away (white blurs). Such 'telescopes' are used to study the otherwise unobservable galaxies created early in the history of our universe, which give evidence about the universe's age and composition.
