Collection includes personal diaries, notebooks, correspondence, manuscripts, working notes, and other materials relating to foreign travel; also material relating to non-journalistic activities between the wars and during World War II, including files and correspondence on the Society of Visiting Scientists and the British Council; papers relating to non-journalistic activities after 1945, including the World Federation of Scientific Workers; material concerning his journalism and associated activities; correspondence (correspondents include a number of prominent physicists); and files relating to books and publishing.
Schoolteacher, lecturer on scientific and public affairs, and advisor to technical and scientific publishers; Manchester Guardian's first scientific correspondent. Appointed first director of the science department of the British Council during World War II. After the war, Crowther held high office in the World Federation of Scientific workers.
