Bard family papers, 1707-1858.
Papers of Dr. Samuel Bard include two manuscript volumes containing syllabus and text of lectures on natural science and astronomy, ca. 1785-1788; a diploma, 1756; and his commencement address at King's College, 1769. Other family papers include love letter from Peter Bard to his future wife Dinah Marmion, 1707; Peter Bard's will, 1734; genealogy records kept by family members, ca. 1800; letters of Samuel, Peter, William, and John Bard concerning school, travel, and family news, 1761-1843; deeds, wills, and legal papers, 1794-1821; several letters to John Bard concerning St. Stephen's College, 1858; and a few photographs.
Dr. Samuel Bard (1742-1821), was one of the founders of the the College of Physicians and Surgeons; his son William Bard (1778-1853), was a lawyer; and his grandson John Bard (1819-1899), founded St. Stephen's College (now Bard College).
