Professor at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, exposure to computers; transition to University of California, Los Angeles, 1958; collaboration with Walter Munk on geophysics text; affiliations with NASA and Goddard Space Institute; director of Atmospheric Research Laboratory, 1960.
