All interviews were recorded on cassette tapes and contain the oral histories of A. Abragem, M. Azbel, Cohen, A. H. Cooke, H. Frolich, A. Hill, C. Hilsum, H. G. Kuhn, T. Kuhn, N. Kurti, F. Lafitte, W. Mitchell, M. Perutz, C. Simon, E. Simpson, C. Smith, E. Sondheimer, D. Shoenberg, R. Smoluchowski, G. Wannier, and C. Zener. Interviewees include details of their upbringings, family histories, educations, professional experiences, professional works, and significant historical events which influenced their lives.

Paul Hoch, Lillian Hoddeson, Steven Keith, and Ernest Braun conducted interviews for the American Institute of Physics. Some interviews of solid state physicists were used by AIPs Center for the History of Physics, others were utilized towards the interviewers personal writings, such as Hoddesons book, "Out of the Crystal Maze: Chapters from the History of Solid State Physics."
