NORPAX
North Pacific Experiment, Office of the Program Administrator records, 1967-1985.
This collection documents the North Pacific Experiment (NORPAX). It consists of quarterly reports, NORPAX Highlights, files of NORPAX committees (including the Scientific Advisory Panel), correspondence, project proposals, lists of publications by NORPAX scientists, films, photographs, slides and negatives. The slides, photos and films depict the ships, instruments and activities of the various investigations. There are many slides showing data collection.
The North Pacific Experiment (NORPAX) was a multi-institutional and interdisciplinary research effort designed to investigate the dynamics and energetic of large-scale fluctuations in the upper ocean. The program involved 24 principal investigators from 17 institutions/agencies. The Scripps Institution of Oceanography component of NORPAX accounted for approximately 50% of the program expenditures and included 14 principal investigators (including Jerome Namias and John Isaacs) as well as the Administrator (David Cutchin) and data library components.
