Collection consists of a typescript copy of Slater's autobiographical manuscript, "A Physicist of the Lucky Generation"; and a detailed account of his family history and early personal and professional life up to 1920, including his association with Harvard University and decision to take a faculty and administrative position at the Massachusetts Insitute of Technology (MIT) in 1930.
American physicist. Ph.D., physics (Harvard University, 1923). Physics professor, Harvard (1924-1930); Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), professor of physics and head of physics department (1930-1951), Harry B. Higgins Professorship (1952), and professor emeritus (1966). Slater's wartime research at MIT Radiation Laboratory increased the effectiveness of radar and the magnetron.
