Hawkins, Gerald S.
The Gerald S. Hawkins collection, 1955-2003.
The collection consists of manuscripts, printed material, correspondence, photographs, research material, computer punch cards, video and audio recordings, memorabilia, and other items. There are numerous items regarding Stonehenge, as well as a film reel of "The Mystery of Stonehenge", and extensive research regarding astronomy, archaeoastronomy, crop circles, and other scientific topics.
Education: B.S., University of London (1949); Ph.D., University of Manchester (1952). Professional experience: Ferranti Bros. (England); Harvard University Observatory; Director, Boston University Observatory; Chair, Astronomy Department, Boston University; Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory; and the Air Force Cambridge Reseach Laboratories. Research interests: He is most well known for being the first to theorize that Stonehenge had been used by its designers as an astronomical calendar. Hawkins also studied other ancient mathematical phenomena, such as the Amun Temple of Karnak in Egypt and the Nazca Lines in Peru, as well as crop circles and other mathematical anomalies.
