H. Fowler's paper on dense matter, then moves on to discuss: the history of solid state physics research and more specifically, the study of paramagnetism; his work at the University of Cambridge and UniversittĖƒ Leipzig; Fermi-Dirac Statistics; and his receipt of the Adams Prize.
