Legal briefs presented in suits involving alleged infringements of patents owned by Solex as a result of Tuohy's inventions are also included. The information emphasizes the major shift in contact lens technology and the growth in their use that resulted from Tuohy's development of the corneal lens in the 1940s which quickly supplanted the scleral lens which had been used until then. The corneal lens, much smaller and more comfortable to wear, could remain in the eye for many more hours consecutively than could the older lens.
