A professional society of chemists, physicists, biologists, and others that seeks the advancement of rheology, the theory and precise measurement of the deformation and flow of matter and its applications, through meetings and publications. The Society was organized in 1929 and is a founding Member Society of the American Institute of Physics. SoR has annual meetings each year and participates in the International Congress on Rheology every four years. It also contributes to the field of rheology with its chief publication, the Journal of Rheology.
This addition to the Society of Rheology collection documents the history and administrative actions of the society from 1975 to 2010. This includes annual meetings and Executive Committee meeting materials, officers' correspondence, information on Society of Rheology publishing, membership lists, Bingham Award correspondence, and information on the membership and publishing relationship and agreements between the Society of Rheology and the American Institute of Physics. The correspondences of former treasurers Montgomery Shaw and Edward A. Collins, as well as Morton M. Denn, editor of the Journal of Rheology, and other executive SoR members can be found within the collection.
