The American Association of Physics Teachers (AAPT) is a professional society of teachers of physics in colleges, universities, and secondary schools, established in 1930 to advance the teaching of physics and further the appreciation of the role of physics in society and culture. It was a founding Member Society of the American Institute of Physics.
This collection contains correspondence, memoranda, congressional testimony, meeting minutes, officer handbooks, workshop materials, and floppy disks relating to John Layman's tenure as Secretary of the American Association of Physics Teachers (AAPT), from 1991-1995. A small portion of the material relates to John Layman's work with AAPT outside his role as Secretary, including his tenures as Vice President (1980-1981), President-elect (1981-1982), and President (1982-1983).
The collection includes material on the Center for the Teaching of Physics (CTP), a project which began in 1993. John Layman received these materials from Howard Voss, Chair of the CTP Board of Governors. The collection also includes material from a 1999-2000 revision of the AAPT constitution.
