Historical Note
The American Institute of Physics (AIP) is a not-for-profit membership corporation chartered in New York State in 1931 for the purpose of promoting the advancement and diffusion of the knowledge of physics and its application to human welfare. Its members are leading societies in the fields of physics and astronomy, and its activities include providing services to its member societies in publishing, finance, and education. The publishing activities of the American Institute of Physics are periodically undertaken jointly with other corporate entities on projects of mutual interest.

Reports, pamphlets, booklets, instructor's manuals the American Institute of Physics (AIP) produced jointly with various non-profit, corporate, educational and governmental bodies on a wide variety of subjects. These groups include the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Chemical Society, the American Institute of Electrical Engineers, Bell Telephone Laboratories, Educational Facilities Laboratories, Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Instrument Society of America, International Commission on Physics Education, the International Physics Olympiad, Materials Research Society, the National Association of Science Writers, and United States Steel.
