Short description of collection
The Southeastern Section of the American Physical Society is dedicated to the advancement and diffusion of knowledge of physics within the Southeastern region of the United States, including the states of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia, and the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico. This collection consists of records from the offices of E. A. Jones, Francis Slack, E. Scott Barr, Ronald E. Mickens, Larry Cain, and Brad Cox, which were accessioned in 1974, 1988, 2002, 2005, 2010, and 2012 and processed as a whole in 2012.

First organized in 1935 in Decatur, Georgia as the Southeastern Association of Physicists, renamed the Southeastern Society of Physicists in 1936, the group affiliated with the American Physical Society (APS) as the Southeastern Section of the APS (SESAPS) in 1937. Its objective is the advancement and diffusion of the knowledge of physics within the Southeastern region of the United States, including the states of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia, and the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.
This collection of the American Physical Society (APS) Southeastern Section (SESAPS) records includes constitution and bylaws, awards, publications, correspondence, treasurer's reports, a scrapbook, and subject files. It documents the activities of the executive committee and the treasurer, as well as planning of the annual meetings.
The collection includes the papers of Chairman Ronald E. Mickens, documenting the period during which he served as Vice-Chair, Program Chair/Coordinator, Chair and Immediate Past Chair of the Section. The collection also includes Treasurer's records, including reports (1940-2003), receipts, software and data discs and other miscellaneous items.
