Biographical/Historical Note

Hugh Everett (1930-1982). Mathematical physics (quantum mechanics, general relativity, theory of games). Head, mathematics section, weapons systems evaluation group, Institute for Defense Analysis (1956-1964); director of Lambda Division, Defense Research Corp. (1964-1965); and president, Lambda Corporation from 1965 until his death.

Scope and Contents of Collection

This collection contains bibliographical materials of Everett, including obituaries, a transcript of a 1977 interview, security clearance forms and related papers; materials concerning Everett's graduate study at Princeton University (1953-1956), including course papers. One folder of Everett's correspondence, which includes a copy of a letter he received from Albert Einstein (1943), correspondence with John Archibald Wheeler (1958-1980), and other correspondence concerning the publication of papers he wrote and responses to historical inquiries into his work on quantum mechanics. One folder of correspondence from after his death in 1982, which includes his widow Nancy's responses to inquiries about him and correspondence on royalties from his publications. There are also published articles and manuscripts by Everett and by Roland E. Allen, Paul Benioff, Bryce S. DeWitt, John Wheeler, and Wolfgang Pauli.
