Short description of collection
This collection documents the grant funded project, Documentation Research Project, of the American Institute of Physics Information Division.
Language(s) of collection

At the end of 1967, the several programs which the American Institutute of Physics operated in the area of physics information, were coordinated under a single Information Division. Funded primarily by the National Science Foundation, this division was responsible for developing the concept of an automated national information system for physics. In 1972, the Information Division joined with the Publications Division to produce, in addition to the primary journals, the information products derived from them in an integrated and more economical operation.
Reports; memoranda; correspondence; proposals; questionnaires. Primarily reports with accompanying studies and other material documenting the development of a computerized classification scheme and database for physics literature referred to as the Physics Documentation Research Project. Also includes studies of uses of abstracts, review literature, and citations. This project was funded through a grant from the National Science Foundation.
Permission of an officer of depositing organization required for access to records less than 25 years old.
Researchers must have an approved access application on file in order to access archival materials. https://www.aip.org/history-programs/niels-bohr-library/item-request.
