Warren O. Hagstrom is a sociologist, educator and author. He was a research associate at the University of California at Berkeley from 1961 to 1962. He then moved to the University of Wisconsin at Madison, where he served on the sociology faculty from 1962 until 1976, and then as department chair from 1973 to 1976.
This collection consists of thirty-seven transcripts of interviews conducted by Hagstrom between 1960 and 1961. The interviews are with California scientists connected with universities and engaged in research in experimental physics, molecular biology and biochemistry, or theoretical physics. This material formed much of the empirical basis of his 1965 book, The Scientific Community.
