The papers are from a variety of sources including: the Ministry of Aircraft Production which sponsored the MAUD Committee and was in charge of the project; the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, which took over the responsibility and created the Directorate of Tube Alloys for the purpose; scientists in various universities--Oxford (Clarendon Laboratory), Cambridge (Cavendish Laboratory), Imperial College, London, Birmingham, Liverpool, and Bristol; scientists in Imperial Chemical Industries Ltd.; the British Commonwealth Scientific Office in Washington, which was the focal point for British participation in the Manhattan project; the joint atomic energy project set up in Canada under J. D. Cockcroft; post-war Ministry of Supply files; and miscellaneous unregistered folders.
