Harlan T. Stetson papers, circa 1906-1961.
Collection includes personal and scientific correspondence (1931-1957); research notes, project notes, working notebooks, data and graphs, journals, and articles relating to astronomy, geophysics, radio wave propagation, navigation, plant growth, and carrier pigeons. Also included are films, photograph albums, scrapbooks, and student notes.
Harlan True Stetson, 1885-1964, B.S. 1912, Brown University; M.A., Dartmouth College; Ph.D., University of Chicago, taught physics at Dartmouth, then astronomy at Harvard, 1916-1929; he then became director of the Perkins Observatory at the Ohio Wesleyan University. He came to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1936 as a research associate on cosmic terrestrial relationships, and directed MIT's Cosmic Terrestrial Research Laboratory, 1940-1950. His research included the study of the earth's crust, sunspots, and radio wave propagation.
