H. Faye biographical file, 1847-1902.
This biographical file contains the material relating to Faye's academic career assembled by the archivist staff of the Acadm̌ie des Sciences : several manuscripts, reprints of papers, biographical materials, and photographs of the Academician. Most interestingly, several letters from around 1860 describe his preparation of the observation of a total solar eclipse in Spain.
Astronomer, professor at the Ecole polytechnique, member of the Acadm̌ie des Sciences and the Bureau des Longitudes, president of the Conseil de l'Observatoire de Paris, Minister of Public Instruction in 1877. He is mostly known for his work on comets and the physical constitution of the Sun.
