Born, Max, 1882-1970
Max Born lecture notebooks, 1905-1937.
Notes taken by Max Born on various subjects during lectures in Frankfurt, Gt̲tingen, Cambridge and Edinburgh. Collection includes notes taken by Born of lectures on partial differential equations given by David Hilbert; notes taken during lectures by Minkowski on automorphic functions (1905), and lecture notes from mechanics lectures at Frankfurt (1919). The collection also includes notes from lectures given by born at Gottingen and Cambridge, such as: Theory of Heat (1922); Optics (1924); Mechanics of the Atom (1927, 1928); Selected Topics in Quantum Theory (1928, 1930); Quantum Theory I (1930); Field Theory of Matter (Cambridge, 1933); Mathematics for Experimental Physicists (Cambridge, 1939); Physical Optics (Cambridge, 1935); Optics (Bangalore, India); and Non-Linear Theory of the Electromagnetic Field (Poincare, Paris, 1937). Other items include articles written by Born, and an obituary notice for Sommerfeld. Topics include quantum theory, physical optics, and mathematical physics.
Physicist (solid state physics, quantum mechanics, lattice dynamics, wave functions, molecules). On the physics faculty at Universitt̃ Gt̲tingen (1908-1914, 1921-1933); Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universitt̃ Berlin (1914-1919); and University of Edinburgh (1936-1956).
