Gamma was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil the 29th of August 1892. He worked as an astronomer for part of his career. From 1929 until 1950 he served as director of the National Observatory in Rio. Gamma participated in numerous international expositions (for example, The International Polar Year 1932-1933 and International Geophysical Year 1957-1958). He worked on geomagnetic and gravity and seismology problems during his career. Gamma died the 21st of July 1981.
