Various papers related to the workings of the observatory over its 150 years of operation. B. Materials relating to important topics and events, such as the establishment of the Royal Observatory, Cape of Good Hope; returns of Halley's comet 1835 and 1910; extension of the Abbi de La Caille's arc of the meridian; work on the Carte du Ciel and publication of the Cape Astrographic Catalogue; Gill's determination of the solar parallax from observations of minor planets; Jones's determination of the solar parallax from observations of Eros; publication of the Cape Photographic Cartalogue for the epoch 1950.0; creation of the South African Astronomical Observatory. HM Astronomers at the Cape were: (1) Fearon Fallows (1789-1831), in office 1820-1831; (2) Thomas Henderson (1798-1844), in office 1831-1833; (3)Thomas Maclear (1794-1879), in office 1833-1870; 4)Edward James Stone (1831-1897), in office 1870-1897 [E. J. Stone served as Chief Assistant at Royal Observatory, Greenwich 1860-1870 (see classmark RGO 6) and Radcliffe Observer, 1879-1897]; (5) David Gill (1843-1914), in office 1879-1907; (6) Sydney Samuel Hough (1870-1923), in office 1907-1923; (7)Harold Spencer Jones (1890-1960), in office 1923-1933 [H.
