Materials relating to important topics and events, such as the establishment of the Royal Observatory, Cape of Good Hope; returns of Halley's comet 1835 and 1910; extension of the Abbi de La Caille's arc of the meridian; work on the Carte du Ciel and publication of the Cape Astrographic Catalogue; Gill's determination of the solar parallax from observations of minor planets; Jones's determination of the solar parallax from observations of Eros; publication of the Cape Photographic Cartalogue for the epoch 1950.0; creation of the South African Astronomical Observatory.
