Richter, Burton, 1931-
Oral history interview with Burton Richter, 1996 July 15.
Richter discusses the building of both the Stanford-Princeton collider and the Stanford Positron-Electron Asymmetric Ring (SPEAR) and the funding difficulties encountered by SPEAR, including SLAC's competition with the Cambridge Electron Accelerator Laboratory. This interview was conducted by Elizabeth Paris as part of her dissertation project on the early history of electron colliding beams in the United States. She is working on her doctorate in History and Philosophy of Science at the University of Pittsburgh.
Physicist. Director of Stanford Linear Accelerator Center from 1984. Received Nobel Prize in 1976 for co-discovery of the J/Psi particle.
