The Physics Department Records span from 1889 to 2015, with the majority of materials dating from the 1960s. A large portion of this collection comes from the research by professors at Syracuse University that was funded by the Atomic Energy Commission (AEC). Additionally, there are several files from Nathan Ginsburg relating to the construction of the Physics Building.
Syracuse University Department of Physics was founded in the 1870s. The Masters program began in the 1920s, and the PhD program began in 1947. In 1965, the university broke ground on the Physics Building.
