Olwell, Russell B., 1969-
Princeton, David Bohm and the Cold War: A study in McCarthyism, 1990.
Final draft of a Junior paper submitted to the Department of History at Princeton University by Russell B. Olwell which discusses the investigation of David Bohm (born 1917) by the House Committee on Un-American Activities (1949-1951), concerning suspected Soviet espionage at the Berkeley Radiation Laboratory during Bohm's Manhattan Project work there. Bohm's reaction to the investigation and his relationship with Princeton University, where he was assistant professor of physics, are examined. The response of the physics community to Bohm's situation is also considered, particularly the roles played by Albert Einstein, and by Bohm's mentor J. Robert Oppenheimer.
