Personal reminiscences on Snell's education and choice of study, his Ph.D. work at McGill University (1933), his move to the U.S. with particular focus on his association with J. Robert Oppenheimer while at the University of California, Berkeley, his involvement in World War II work at the University of Chicago Metallurgical Laboratory (1938-1944), and his scientific work since 1944 at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory.
