Haynes, Sherwood Kimball, 1910-1990
Sherwood Kimball Haynes response to 1988 History of Nuclear Physics Survey, 1988.
Handwritten completed survey of personal data; and sixteen-page typed response to questionnaire in which Haynes describes his graduate work with Robert A. Millikan and Henry V. Neher at the California Institute of Technology designing non-leaking capacitators for recharging Cosmic Ray Balloon Electroscopes; early work at a number of institutions; work after World War II at Vanderbilt University and Oak Ridge National Laboratory on neutrinos and spectroscopy, and at Michigan State University where he continued his spectroscopy work. He also comments on his experiences as a student, teacher, and department chairman at Michigan State, and on his involvement with the American Association of Physics Teachers, the American Institute of Physics, and the North Carolina Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools. File also includes a curriculum vitae and list of publications.
