A review of scientific career, 1967.
Describes Brillouin's family background; his education at cole Normale Supřieure (ENS), and Ph.D. (1920: theory of solids and light scattering); his work at ENS, and cole Supǐeure d'Electricit,̌ Institut H. Poincair,̌ and Collǧe de France, (1921-1948); his attainment of U.S. citizenship in 1949; Presidence of cole Libre des Hautes tudes in New York (1943-1959); and his position on the physics faculty at Harvard University (1945-1949). Brillouin also comments on the World War I and II Periods in France and on his directorship of the French Broadcasting System. He Discusses his scientific work in solid state physics; war work on magnetron and antennas; Brillouin zones; Brillouin Formula; Brillouin Theorem; Brillouin Flow; information theory; and comments on the (Bardeen, Shockley, Brattain) Nobel Prize in 1956.
