Condon and others; his interest in nuclear physics beginning in 1936; work before World War II with Louis Ridenour at the University of Pennsylvania; war work first on optical proximity fuses at the National Bureau of Standards and later on aircraft at the Norden Laboratory; and lengthy discussion of post war nuclear physics work at Princeton University and work at Stanford University on electron scattering beginning in 1950.
