This collection of professional papers is as yet incomplete. Currently it consists of material related to Oettinger's directorship of the National Academy of Sciences Science and Engineering Board (1967-1973), early correspondence, (ca. 1952- ca. 1966), early publications (ca. 1958- ca. 1963), and teaching material for courses in applied mathematics, linguistics, educational technology, and communication.
Oettinger born 1929. On the Harvard faculty in applied mathematics from 1954, and from 1974 professor of Information Resources Policy. Oettinger directed the Harvard Computation Laboratory in the 1950s and 1960s. He was a pioneer in the field of computer science and computer engineering making important contributions, especially in the areas of intelligent machines and machine translation of human languages. He consulted extensively for industry and government.
