E. I. du Pont de Nemours & Company. Atomic Energy Division.
E. I. du Pont de Nemours & Company Atomic Energy Division DPW reports, 1950-1987.
The code "DP" was assigned to the Explosives Department's Atomic Energy Division for use on documents relating to research and development that were to be distributed to the Atomic Energy Division and various subcontractors. The "DPW" code was used by the file room on AED documents generated in Wilmington, Del. These included minutes of technical and administrative meetings, as well as meetings of the Process Section and Manufacturing Division. Memoranda and correspondence relate to all aspects of Savannah River Plant operations including construction, reactor design and fabrication, establishment of quality control, safety, and health physics programs. There are reports by SRP staff describing their visits to other nuclear facilities, including Hanford, Los Alamos, Oak Ridge, and Argonne National laboratories. The correspondence also documents relationships with subcontractors and consultants such as the Battelle Memorial Institute. There are also progress reports (weekly and monthly), reports on metallurgical fabrication, waste disposal and the development of separation technology.
Du Pont's Atomic Engery Division built and operated the plants at Hanford, Washington, and Savannah River, South Carolina, that produced enriched uranium, plutonium and tritium for the U.S. nuclear program between 1945 and 1989. A more complete history may be found under the main entry (DEHV91-A238).
