Includes correspondence, 1910-1938, of Directors, Theodore Lyman and E.H. Hall, with some personal correspondence of Lyman and some material relating to activities of chairmen of the Department of Physics. Subjects of correspondence include fellowship and scholarship application, staff appointments, budget, concentrators, and reports. Financial records include budget, income and expenditure, and other information for Jefferson Physical Laboratory; account books, 1933-1937; and laboratory supplies and apparatus records. Other materials include German certificate, 1906; correspondence about fund drive for Lyman Laboratory of Physics; and minutes, correspondence and reports about planning and construction, 1930-1931, of Lyman Lab; and reminiscences of work in laboratories during 1930s and 1940s by laboratory staff.
The laboratories of the Department of Physics are the Jefferson Physical Laboratory, Lyman Laboratory of Physics, High Energy Laboratory, and the Cyclotron Laboratory.
