Part I (of three), "How big is an atom?" establishes the realness of atoms by showing that they have a definite and understandable size in relation to the visible world; reviews various determinations of the size of an atom; and discusses some of the ways in which the effects of atoms have been observed. Part II, "What makes atoms stick together?" shows the structure and unique characteristics of atoms; and reviews the significant studies of Rutherford, Bohr, and others relevant to atomic structure. Part III, "Why are atoms unpredictable?" demonstrates the strange and contradictory particle and wave behavior of electrons and discusses the uncertainty principle. The series is narrated by Edward Teller.
