This collection consists of student papers, course material, published writings, and research material of Johns Hopkins University professor of electrical engineering, Jan Michael Minkowski. Along with his student papers from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (E.T.H.) are notes and contract information from Dr. Minkowski's position as research scientist and later, Head of Physical Research, the Carlyle Barton Laboratory (1952-1970). The papers largely detail Dr. Minkowski's classroom teaching at The Johns Hopkins University and his research in the fields of solid state physics, quantum optics, and microwaves. Most of the collection is in English with the exception of Dr. Minkowski's student papers which are in German. Final items in the collection are tapers, crystals, and metals used in Dr. Minkowski's laboratory work.
