CERN's 25 GeV proton synchrotron, 1960.
This brochure is partly a reprint of a special issue of the "CERN Courier," published on the occasion of the inauguration of the 25 GeV proton synchrotron in 1960. At the time, it was the world's largest particle accelerator. The brochure contains both historical data about the development of the accelerator and a technical description complete with graphs, statistics, and photos.
The European Organization for Nuclear Research/Organisation europňne pour la recherche nuclǎire, widely known as CERN, was established in Geneva, Switzerland in 1954 to coordinate and perform research on fundamental particles. The member states are Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, West Germany, Greece, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.
