Background information compiled for AIP participants prior to a trip to the Soviet Union in January 1991 to negotiate with Vsesoiuznoe agentstvo po avtorskim pravam (VAAP) and the Soviet Academy of Sciences on the continuation of the program and the procedures used by AIP to translate, edit, compose, and print the Soviet scientific journals. Includes the initial protocol dated February 1988 between the VAAP and AIP to translate into English certain scientific journals published in Russian; a draft of a subsequent protocol (including the Soviet Academy of Sciences' participation) with correspondence, position papers, and financial information.
The American Institute of Physics (AIP) is a not-for-profit membership corporation which began in 1931 for the purpose of promoting the advancement and diffusion of the knowledge of physics and its application to human welfare. Its members are leading societies in the fields of physics and astronomy, and its activities include providing services to its member societies in publishing, finance, and education. AIP publishes scientific journals reporting original research in all the principal areas of physics and allied sciences including translation journals and journals on behalf of its member societies. The Publishing Division handles this principal responsibility of the AIP.
