Morse and William Shockley on submarine warfare; trips to Miami, Trinidad, England, and the Pacific; postwar work at MIT with Sandborn Brown; early interaction with Charles Kittel; constructing microwave accelerator with John Slater; transition to Berkeley with Kittel; cyclotron resonance in semiconductors; Moscow conference in the middle fifties and subsequent work on cyclotron resonance in metals upon Azbel's instigation.
