The subtitle reads "The Heavens Without a Telescope. The Only Practical Combination Star, Planet, and Sun and Moon Map." Instructions for use are included on the board, which purports to show the ecliptic ("the apparent annual path of the sun"), the path of the planets, and the view of the stars at a given date and time. The constellations of the Zodiac are also included on the map. The item specifies that the map is representative of the Northern Hemisphere.
Leon Barritt (1852-1938) was an illustrator, cartoonist, journalist, and amateur astronomer. Garrett Putnam Serviss (1851-1929) was an astronomer, journalist, author, and science fiction writer. Both were born in upstate New York, and conducted most of their work in the New York area.
