The Nevada Test Site Oral History Project (NTSOHP) research was conducted from September 2003 through July 2007 in the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) College of Liberal Arts Department of History with funding from United States Departments of Energy and Education. The Project collected interviews from over 150 persons affiliated with and affected by the Nevada Test Site (NTS), located in southeastern Nye County, Nevada, during the era of Cold War nuclear testing. Those interviewed include national laboratory scientists and engineers, labor trades and support personnel, cabinet-level officials, military personnel and corporate executives, Native American tribal and spiritual leaders, and peace activists and protesters. Ranchers, families, and communities downwind of the test site were also interviewed. The central goal of the project was to gather insights around questions and themes related to U.S. Cold War nuclear weapons programs through interviews with a wide range of people associated with the NTS.
