John W. Firor papers, 1954-2004.
This collection contains the papers of John W. Firor, a former Director of the High Altitude Observatory (HAO) and second Director of the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR). The collection spans his scientific career with HAO and NCAR as well as his work with outside organizations. Most of the material is in paper format including correspondence, publications, reports, notebooks, brochures, clippings and reprints. The collection also includes audiovisual material in the form of photographs, glass plates, negatives, transparencies, films and VHS tapes.
American physicist. Ph.D. physics, University of Chicago (1954). Professional experience includes: director, High Altitude Observatory (HAO) (1961-1968); director, director of Advanced Study Program, National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) (1968-1996).
