Jack S. Goldstein collection on Jerrold R. Zacharias, circa 1900-1986.
The collection is composed of materials pertaining to Jerrold Zacharias that were collected by Jack S. Goldstein in preparation for his book, A Different Sort of Time: The Life of Jerrold R. Zacharias, Scientist, Engineer, Educator (MIT Press, 1992). The bulk of the collection includes photographs of Jerrold R. Zacharias, his wife, Leona, his family members, and his professional and personal acquaintances. The photographs span Zachariass life, including early family photographs, career photographs, and photographs of Zacharias in his later years. The majority of the photographs are black and white. The photographs are arranged chronologically, although the dates are approximations. The collection includes a few non-photographic items in box 1). Box 2 contains oversized photographs, and box 3 contains negatives of many of the photographs in boxes 1 and 2.
Jack Goldstein, American astrophysicist. Professional experience includes: from instructor to full professor of astrophysics, visiting professor, dean of the graduate school, dean of faculty, Brandeis University (1956-1999).
Jerrold R. Zacharias, American physicist. Professional experience includes: head of the Division on Radar Transmitter Components of the Radiation Laboratory, professor of physics and director of the Laboratory for Nuclear Science, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) (1940-1945; 1946-); director of the engineering division of the Manhattan Project in Los Alamos (1945-1946).
