Association of Cambridge Scientists records, 1945-1946.
The Association of Cambridge Scientists records cover the years 1945 to 1946 and contain press releases and statements issued by the association; correspondence from interested individuals and from similar organizations. Newsletters, press releases and statements from these sister organizations make up the majority of the collection. The association was affiliated with the Federation of American Scientists.
Founded in late 1945 as a response to the growing controversy over the uses of atomic energy, and whose membership was comprised mainly of persons on the staffs of Harvard University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The main purpose of the Association was to inform the general public on scientific matters when such information was pertinent to matters of public policy, and to stir discussions among scientists themselves.
