J. Adair Lyon papers, 1898-1953.
This collection consists of personal and professional papers of J. Adair Lyon of New Orleans, La. Included are handwritten and typed correspondence, post cards, financial and medical documents, graphs and charts of astronomical observations and spectroscopy, essays, school papers such as roll books with attendees and grades, articles, newspaper clippings and other printed items. Correspondents include Pierce Butler and Roger McCutcheon.
James Adair Lyon (1876-1962) was a professor of physics and astronomy at Newcomb College in New Orleans in the early twentieth century. His father, James Adair Lyon (1852-1915), was an educator and physicist; his grandfather, a minister, also had the same name.
