Edward Everett Hayden family papers, 1817-1963 (bulk 1879-1932).
This collection contains correspondence, diaries, journals, notebooks, financial material, photographs, and other papers pertaining to Hayden's naval and scientific careers and to his family. Hayden's navy files are wide-ranging, but they focus on his scientific work for the navy and his command of the United States Naval Station in Key West, Florida, from 1910 to 1915. Other family members represented in the collection (specifically in the family papers series) are Alfred Hayden, Arthur D. Edward Everett Hayden was an American naval officer, inventor and meteorologist. Though he spent the entirety of his career in the Navy, he also worked with the Smithsonian and the US Geologial Survey. He was co-founder of the National Geographic Society.
